Water builds homesMore often than not, what holds up new development in a town is its infrastructure. If you can't support more homes, business or people, you can't issue new building permits and without new people, a town can stagnate. Stayner has been in exactly that predicament since 2023.
$35 million new grant for water
The Minister of Infrastructure cleared the way for Clearview township to receive a hefty grant to support four new wells plus a new pumping station. For a couple of years, the town of Stayner has not been able to issue new building permits due to having reached it's maximum capacity to deliver water.
Simcoe County is a release valve for the GTA
COVID saw the demand for properties north of the GTA rise faster than before, but while the trend may have slowed in years since, it's still prevalent. With the rising cost of living pushing people out of Toronto and people seeking more space than a shoebox condo, Simcoe region has become increasingly important to Ontario's growth. Investments like this and projects like the two new schools in Wasaga Beach, we're seeing the Ontario government prioritize our backyard like never before.
More than 4,000 new homes
The town of Stayner will now go through the process of accepting and reviewing bids for the new projects, which should take about a month. From there, the project will likely take a couple of years to complete, but that should not hold-up new home construction. The town plans to begin issuing permits again with completion dates nearer to when the new water capacity will come online. More than 4,000 new building permits will be issued as a direct result of this grant and the capacity that it'll bring to Stayner - a boon for the region as a whole.
The whole area is growing. With our new casino, a BIG Costco store on the way and our own Beach Area 1 to be revitalized, it'll be exciting to see our towns grow in the coming years.
